Shambhala –action for ethnic diversity and cultural sustainable development.

Shambhala is a non-profit organization, dedicated to changing lives, fighting poverty, and pioneering progressive sustainable development programs that can serve as models to indigenous communities, both within and beyond the Himalayas.

Shambhala is named after the Tibetan concept of an equitable, peaceful realm where environmental and ethnic diversity is respected and upheld. Founded in 2005 as a charitable organization in Hong Kong, it has operations in Lhasa under House of Shambhala and in Beijing.

Shambhala believes that cultural sustainability is best achieved through economic foundations which embrace local traditions and ways of life. To date, Shambhala efforts have been focused on Tibetan communities, while seeking to promote successful experiences and models to indigenous communities in other regions. Shambhala view cultural sustainability as essential in protecting our environment given as such values are largely upheld by indigenous communities.Through its various action initiatives, Shambhala is able to restore local identity among indigenous people while building confidence through provision of skills with an economic foundation. Programs focus on empowering marginalized individuals, restoring local identity while building confidence through skill provision. Such endeavors allow Shambhala to integrate employment, skill training, cultural identity revival, and communal responsibility through participation in a social enterprise.

Shambhala also extends its aid to Tibetan communities in the form of health-oriented action initiatives which integrate local beliefs with modern medical assistance. Shambhala's efforts and the generous support of other groups and individuals have resulted in clinics, eye camps, and other medical facilities. These provide competent, quality health care for the locals in need of medical attention.
